Cleveland Plays Racing Rules

1. Refunds are not permitted. We ask that runners transfer to another CPR race.
2. On-line registration fees are non-refundable.
3. Protests related to actions of any race official or runner will be accepted only in written form. Verbal protests will not receive responses. All decisions of the race director are binding.
4. All athletes under 18 years old must have parents sign the application form.
5. All athletes must strictly obey the rules and the officials.
6. We are not responsible for any breakage, theft or loss of equipment.

7. Participants are responsible for verifying that the timing device is worn correctly during the race. Any problems with the timing device must be addressed at the Participant Services Desk at the time of Packet Pick-Up.
8. Bibs are non-transferable, selling or trading of Bib Numbers is not allowed.

9. Pets (horses, dogs, cats or other animals) will not be allowed on the course on race day unless approved by the race director.
10. Participants must follow instructions as given from all event officials including race staff, volunteers, medical personnel, security officers and city officials throughout the duration of the event.
11. Every participant shall be provided with an event bib number, which shall be conspicuously worn on the front (and back when applicable) during the event. The event bib number is to be worn as issued. No participant shall be permitted to participate in the event without the appropriate bib number.
12. The course will remain secured until the 15:00/mile pace Official End Vehicle crosses the finish line. At that time, the event is officially concluded, normal traffic will be allowed on the race course and there will be no traffic protection and aid stations will cease operation.

13. Event officials reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race due to inclement weather in accordance with Emergency Protocol on severe emergencies and/or inclement weather.
14. Athletes finish the race when all parts of his body cross the finish line.
15. Athletes must compete by running, walking or crawling and nothing else. Numbers must be in the front, clear and visible, and must not be taken off at any time. Athletes who fold, cut or tamper with the numbers in any way may be disqualified from competition.
16. No one, including the athletes that have finished the race or those that have been disqualified from the race, may assist athletes that are still competing.
17. Competitors who accept any assistance from any other person may be disqualified.
18. You may be disqualified if there is no record of you passing/scanning through each of the check points.

19. Any participant who refuses to obey the directions of the event official, city official or course marshall, or who conducts himself/herself in an unsportsmanlike manner, or who is offensive by action or language to officials, volunteers, participants or spectators may be disqualified by the event and future participation at the discretion of race officials.
20. No participant, after leaving the course, shall be allowed to rejoin the race either for the purpose of gaining a place or to pace or to assist another participant.
21. Any participant who has been found by a course marshal, event official or surveillance equipment to have gained an unfair advantage by intentionally shortening the route of the race ("cutting the course") shall be immediately disqualified from the event.

22. The use of video devices, cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, radios, headphones, or ear-buds, computers, cameras or any similar devices by participants while in the event is prohibited. Participants are responsible for their recognition and understanding of event signage, volunteers, police, symbols and color relating to participant maps, facilities and direction.
23. The use of wheeled devices by participants or any other person authorized to be on the course shall be strictly limited to (a) authorized and registered competitive wheelchair participants and (b) authorized course marshals on bicycles. Skateboards, rollerblades, unauthorized bicycles or any other wheeled device will not be permitted.
24. Medical personnel authorized by the event to do so may examine any participant who appears in distress. If in the sole opinion of authorized medical personnel it is in the best interest of the participant's health and welfare, medical personnel may remove the participant from the event.
25. Participants must retire at once from race if ordered to do so by a member of the event’s official staff, official medical staff, or any governmental authority, including fire and police officers.
26. Participants are responsible and assume liability for any and all medical expenses incurred as a result of training for and/or participation in the event, including but not limited to ambulance transport, hospital stays, physician and pharmaceutical goods and services.

27. Clock time (gun time) is the official time for all runners. The official times shall be recorded from the start of the race by the air horn to the point where the participant crosses the finish line. Times shall be rounded to the next highest second.
28. Race Directors can determine if gun or chip time applies to overall winners or age group winners. Please see their website or flyer for details.

29. Participants found to be wearing two or more timing devices during the race will be disqualified and their results will not be recorded.
30. Participants with missing timing device times at official checkpoints will be reviewed and may be disqualified.
31. All participant timing device times are reviewed before participant times are designated official.
32. Participants must begin the event during the official recognized starting time in order to register an official course completion time.
33. Bib numbers positioned front top center MUST be worn throughout the entire race. The number MUST be visible at all times. Do not cut or fold the runner number. Do not deface running numbers with stickers, markers, or any writing.

34. Event officials reserve the right, to modify, supplement or waive all or part of the event rules.
35. Participants shall be bound by any modification or supplement of the event rules published prior to the event.
36. Failure to follow these event rules, as may be amended, will result in immediate disqualification, loss of prize money and removal from official results.
